Year after year, Google keeps impressing me with their products. Currently I am heating my home with electricity. This is pretty inefficient and expensive. Look what Google comes up with: a perfect tool. I'm pretty sure I need to buy some hardware to go with it, but I like what I see in the video. When we finally get the flying cars that we have been promised since the 50s, I am pretty sure they will be coming from Google.

Hi Bram, I thought this was very cool too. Sounds like you are enjoying your time in Canada! Ive been blogging about our move to California at mommyknowseverything.blogspot.com. Hope all is well with you!
Google got a bit of flak recently because some reports claimed that every search query uses half the energy as boiling a kettle of water. It sounded a bit fishy to me and Google refuted those claims. I wonder if this powermeter initiative has anything to do with it?
Yeah, that sounds a bit much. Also, the energy used by google servers will be dwarfed by the energy used by the public's PC's that access them. It's mainly the PC's that people have at home that are used inefficiently. (Especially the ones with modern GPUs). Not mine though: I have a mac mini.
